Position Summary

Part of Thomson Reuters’ Research and Insight division, the Metals Research team is one of seven research groups including: Oil, Agriculture, Natural Gas and Shipping. Metals Research includes coverage of precious and base metals and iron ore. The majority of the base metals team is located in London with additional analysts in Chicago and Singapore, producing supply and demand numbers for the main traded LME base metals, and more recently for iron ore.

With the wide resources available in Thomson Reuters group we are building a product deliverable via desktop into clients’ offices, providing fundamental research, market commentary and analysis, giving individual analysts exposure to a world-wide readership, as well as direct interaction with clients. We are also working closely with other research teams in the organisation, looking to develop, for example, a study of certain commodity flows around the world and tying in with shipping patterns and the use of interactive maps.

We are looking to recruit an Analyst to be based in Singapore, to help to cover the research into the supply and demand side of the base metals markets.

Position Overview

The analyst will report to the Manager of Metals and Mining, in London. The role will focus primarily on market outlooks for both the short and long term and both the demand- and supply-side aspects across base metals.

Role Responsibilities

This analyst will be involved in the fundamental analysis and commentary (as relevant) that enhance existing or new products and services with respect to the base metals. The work will include maintenance of some of the existing data suites, while contributing written, graphical and numerical work to the range of metals research products and developing fresh initiatives and products.

This is a pro-active team and the ideal candidate will have a flair for innovation and be prepared in time to work with various departments in the Supply Chain Commodities Research Division.

Education • Bachelors or Master degree preferable


Skills and Experience Required * 3-5 years' experience within the base metals sector * Proven track record of writing briefings and reports * Applicants with a background in journalism and/or research
* Strong numerical, written and verbal skills * Consultative approach with clients prospects and market stakeholders * Confident, resourceful self-starter, plus a mind geared to rigorous attention to detail and a good team spirit * Knowledge of languages preferably mandarin due to the region this role will support
