MSD is seeking a Controller to join its Asia Pacific Japan (APJ) Revenue Accounting Team based in Singapore, reporting to the Financial Reporting and Revenue Compliance Controller.
Responsibilities and deliverables include:
Manages the day-to-day activity of product revenue accounting including review and approve sales contracts to ensure that revenue recognition is in compliance with US GAAP, internal compliance procedures and corporate policies and liaise with finance controllers and internal customers as needed
Reviews and approves journal entries for system sales revenue recognition/system acceptance/training/software revenue and related balance sheet schedules
Reviews monthly and quarterly US GAAP based corporate reporting such as revenue tracker reconciliation report, revenue/cogs reconciliation report, and shipped-not-revenued (SNR) report
Chairs weekly meeting with Revenue Accountants to identify, follow up and follow through revenue recognition issues, reduction in aged balance sheet items, training needs etc.
Provides quarterly/yearly Audit support for APJ Finance department including communicating with internal and external auditors, leading walkthroughs and resolving queries as required
Participates in peer's balance sheet review
Identifies and drives areas for continuous process improvements including strengthening financial controls based on Sarbanes Oxley requirements
Drives accounting process alignment within APJ Finance and ensure alignment with global Finance (USA and Europe)
Participates in various working groups
Other duties as assigned
The Requirements The ideal candidate for this position enjoys working in a multi-disciplinary technical environment and will possess the following combination of education and experience:
Degree in Accounting, Advanced degree and/or accredited financial certification is highly preferred
6-8 years of working experience in accounting with ERP systems preferably in a high tech environment, 2+ years of experience in a leadership role is preferred
3-5 years of BIG 4 audit experience
Good understanding of US GAAP and application, especially in Revenue Recognition
Familiar and conversant with internal control processes (SOX) and corporate governance
Able to work under pressure and consistently meet strict reporting deadlines
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with an attention to detail
Strong knowledge working with ERP systems
Proven leadership / supervisory experience
Able and willing to dive into details and be hands-on
Go-getting and positive attitude towards constantly undertaking new challenges & project initiatives; especially within a fluid and dynamic environment
Adaptable to changes in the work environment and is not afraid to challenge the status quo
First class communication (oral, written, presentation), people and influencing skills
Able to travel 10%-20%
