S&P Global Ratings has an opening for a Director covering a portfolio of Sovereign credits in Asia, focusing on North and South and South-East Asia. The successful candidate will be based in Singapore or Hong Kong. As a senior representative of the team, you will assume analytical oversight responsibility for a broad portfolio of sovereign and sovereign-related credits in Asia, including covering major credits as the primary analyst.
The Team / The Business:
You will belong to the Asia-Pacific and Africa Sovereign and International Public Finance Practice. You will part of the team responsible for the ratings of over 50 Sovereigns and over 100 local and regional governments and government related entities.
As a senior analyst you will analyze non-routine and complex situations in a timely and insightful manner. You will play a central role in driving and coordinating the group’s outreach and cross-portfolio publishing efforts, including communication and cooperation with other groups within S&P ratings. You will also play a role in coaching and developing junior analysts in the team and will be instrumental in building a high-performing team.

Sound judgement and organizational skills are also required to present detailed information, reasoned opinions, and a rating recommendation to our credit rating committees.

Manage a portfolio of government ratings across the Sovereign and International Public Finance team with a focus on Southeast Asia. Entities include government related companies, local governments and other public sector entities.
Interaction with government officials and top/senior management of corporations and multilateral agencies within the region.
Thorough analysis of the credit profile of the government entities including an in-depth assessment of the entities’ financial practices, performance and management.
Develop recommendations and assignment of ratings to governments and public sector companies, as well as their debt instruments, in accordance with Standard & Poor’s rating criteria
Synthesis findings into analytical reports for internal committees and publication.
Communication of analytical rationales to users of ratings.
System research, industry reports and commentaries.
Represent the company and deliver analytical presentations at external conferences and seminars.
Will need to travel within the region, with the focus on Southeast Asia
Post-graduate qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject such as finance, economics, politics, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of seven years of hands-on analytical experience in a relevant government agency, or a credit/research environment ideally analyzing public sector entities (sovereign and local governments, public sector companies)
Excellent knowledge of Asia’s financial markets, governmental systems and regulatory environment
Fluency in English - speaking, reading, and writing - is essential. Additional languages are desirable.
