The Economist Editorial Intern, Thought Leadership (SG) in Singapore, Singapore

Introduction:

Currently, the Thought Leadership (TL) division of The Economist is offering an exciting internship opportunity in Singapore. TL interns function like entry-level staff members—they don’t make copies, fetch coffee or answer phones. Interns work closely with TL’s editors and have the opportunity to work on live projects and contribute to research reports that will help advance their careers. TL’s internship program is competitive; we look for interns that have a profound interest in journalism, research and/or technology. The interns time will split across a range of projects including: a ground-breaking “Smart Cities” research project looking at the value “smart” initiatives can bring to citizens; and a “Connecting capabilities” index assessing the effectiveness of Asia-Pacific companies at utilising digital connections.

Accountabilities:

In the role you would be expected to:

  • Perform a range of tasks depending on the research projects needs

  • Undertake desk research to identify related research and potential interviewees

  • Set-up interviews

  • Assist with management of online advisory board

  • Coordinate local film crews for interviews

  • Write, proof or fact-check reports (not essential, but possible for someone with the right skill set)

  • Manage creative content—working with designers to create project website, infographics and motion graphics for video

Experience, skills and professional attributes:

To succeed in the role you must have:

  • Work experience or previous internship in journalism/research or the telecommunications sector is preferred but not required

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral and an attention to detail

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
