Global Organization:

The primary role of Global Consumer Banking (GCB) Business and Industry Practices is to help the consumer businesses globally to identify and manage external risks and come up with potential mitigants and solutions to them. External risks include those driven by regulatory changes and reputational issues. The Business and Industry Practices team engages directly with regulators, the media, and advocates and community groups on consumer issues; manages Consumer Business Practices worldwide to identify, escalate and resolve issues; and is responsible for working with Compliance, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, Government Relations, Community Relations and Communications for GCB. Business and Industry Practices also supports the overall management structure for GCB, and triages major global cross-business/cross-functional issues and activities on an Ad hoc basis.

Role/Responsibilities:

The TCF Practices Manager will work with the TCF Business champion and Global TCF and Business Practices organization to lead efforts to identify and manage potential and fairness (TCF) and related reputation risks, and work with the country/Regional management to identify and support the formulation and implementation of mitigants to those risks.

Duties for the TCF Business Practices Manager will include:

  • Coordinating in-country activities, providing a global/regional perspective and highlighting emerging areas of focus while working closely with the global team who is tasked with driving the business to operate responsibly and to maintain practices of the highest standards of ethics and integrity while considering Citi’s external constituents including consumer advocates, regulators, and the media

  • Identify and mitigate, working with the Global team and relevant stakeholders, fairness and related reputation risks related to significant projects and existing processes or policies

  • As needed, participate in business forums or committees to identify TCF and related Practices concerns

  • Conducting and supporting global targeted risk reviews for the identification and management of fairness risks, building upon deep business knowledge and product expertise

  • Analyze complaints with a specific fairness lens and work with the respective stakeholders on resolutions

  • Consolidating trends and areas of emergent risk through working with the Global team as well as Country management and TCF champions

  • Executing the globally driven formal plan, including standards, protocols, procedures and other documentation

  • Supporting the TCF Champion in Steering cross-functional collaboration with business and functional partners to facilitate the exchange of information and early identification of risks, and setting up a TCF forum across key leadership stakeholders and TCF champions

  • Implementing globally driven tools and create additional ones in order to monitor business execution and practices (e.g. topic records, key performance metrics, surveys, heat maps, sub-committees/task forces)

  • Escalate identified TCF/issues to the Global team, BP Liaison, and relevant stakeholders; work with those contacts to support resolution of escalated issues, either at the business level or through the TCF Champion and if appropriate escalation to the APAC BPC

Qualifications

Education:

  • Advanced Degree strongly preferred, Masters in Business Administration, Masters of Public Administration/Public Policy Management, Mastersin Ethics/Ethical Decision Making, Law Degree, Commercial Credit Training

Professional Experience:

  • 10-15 years of direct banking experience within multi-national, multi-business consumer financial institution

  • Success in core operating and business roles such as marketing, product strategy, policy development that convey deep business knowledge and product expertise

  • Demonstrated commitment to Citi’s mission of Responsible Finance, Community Advocacy, and Consumer Affairs

  • Deep understanding of external environment and stakeholders, particularly of legislative, regulatory and reputational risk issues and trends

  • Skilled in collaborating with internal partners, external constituents and clients across private, not-for-profit, and public sectors

Skill Qualifications:

Analytical and Intellectual Skills:

  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills, including the ability to analyze operational and financial impact of various alternatives and risk mitigation approaches while providing effective challenge to the business

  • Intellectual curiosity and strong research skills to understand implication of consent orders, shifts in regulation, and marketplace activity

  • Proven ability to identify and link emerging risks and pinpoint underlying business practice concerns across multiple businesses and global regions

  • Confidence to operate in a principled manner, focused on decision making in the ‘spirit’ of the law/regulation and not singularly the letter of the law

Relationship Management and Maturity:

  • Ability to operate with the highest level of diplomacy in order to catalyze senior-level discussion, and influence business recommendations

  • Ability to negotiate and influence senior management through keen understanding of business priorities, functional sensitivities, and clear articulation of trade-off, risk/reward analysis

  • Ability to use discretion and sound judgment related to reputational and other risk mitigation recommendations, given work is highly intellectual and confidential in nature

  • Ability to operate within a matrix environment and effectively lead change across multiple constituencies, organizational boundaries, geographic areas, and levels of management

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Institutional Knowledge:

  • Ability able to define and execute on cross-business/cross-functional standards, often applicable globally

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously and demonstrate an understanding of the projects' inter-dependencies and key participants
