Position Description

The Role:

We are currently seeking a Managing Editor to join our Singapore office. The Managing Editor will help develop and drive the coverage across our existing biofuel, sugar and grain price assessments as well as oversee the introduction of new markets.

The Managing Editor position will be responsible at the regional level for a team of approximately five Agriculture pricing experts. This team is responsible for price and market intelligence gathering activities across a range of disciplines including biofuels, sugar and grains as well as for the price formation process. Each of these sectors brings its own challenges such as defending or strengthening an existing benchmark; establishing a new benchmark; coordinating news and analysis; and further developing existing assessments to fully realise their latent potential. The candidate will relish the challenge that building a new business brings and will:

Manage team performance as well as coach and mentor staff

Monitor team’s news - market reporting activities, ensuring timely coverage of events

Understand relevance of information to the customer, and facilitate the development of value-added news - information

Regularly assist in market coverage, and continue to produce regular in-depth analytical - enterprise articles

Ensure copy and commentary is accurate, aligned with pricing data and assessments and enforce any required approval process

Establish best practices and systems to improve quality and analysis contained in written commentaries and news

The Impact:The Managing Editor will have:

the ability to defend or strengthen Platts reputation in respect of existing benchmarks and to build a reputation and a name for Platts within new areas of the business

excellent managerial skills and advanced experience of the commodity markets and of market reporting and publishingexpertise in developing and applying methodologies and must be able to serve externally as a subject matter expert.

The Team / The Business: The role will also assist the Pricing Editorial Director, Agriculture and the Global Content Director, Agriculture in delivering the vision for Platts Agriculture sector and will work closely with relevant units across the organisation such as Marketing, Sales and Conferences.

Your Skills:

BA degree in journalism or business preferred together with five years reporting/writing/analytical or editorial management experience

Previous management experience and strong leadership ability which utilizes influence and promotes team collaboration and development as well as personal accountability

Excellent communication skills with ability to communicate across a wide range of groups and personalities internally and externally

Strong numeracy skills including ability to conceptualize proportional relationships and to understand the basic principles of algebra and statistics as well as a strong ability to apply basic math functions in Excel. Experience in quantitative analysis an advantage

Solid understanding of economics principles and of risk management principles

Skilled at identifying improvements and efficiencies and implementing processes that continually promote productivity and quality improvements

Strong critical thinking skills and expert at problem/conflict resolution

Deep knowledge of the global commodity markets

Energy, tenacity and ambition to excel in a fast-paced environment

Multi-lingual skills an advantage
