KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for overall leadership of all aspects of financial control, planning and forecasting, and business partnership of Medtronic Asia Pacific Finance Operations.

  • Enhance effectiveness of the organization through insightful analysis, influence on strategic direction and execution. Provide robust financial evaluation andenabledecision making on initiatives and investments. Help Medtronic business maximize revenue, long term profits and cash-flows.

  • Lead the strategic and business planning processes for Asia Pacific, ensuring close coordination with key stakeholders including Country, Business units and other functional partners.

  • Partner with senior management to develop and implement business strategies which will meet short and long term performance goals.

Key Accountabilities:

Fiduciary Duty

·Ensure the provision of accurate and timely financial information,sine qua non of controllership, including, but not limited to, standardized approaches to judgmental reserves, timeliness of reconciliations, and accurate intercompany profit elimination.

·Ensure systems of internal control are in place andhighlyeffective; that group policies, e.g. WWFM,and procedures are complied with; and that they all evolve to continuously meet the changing nature of thegeography/business.In that aspect, act as the voice of geography to Corporate Finance.

·Oversee taxation and statutory compliance for all entities in Asia Pacific, ensuring all obligations and deadlines are met and opportunities identified and taken.This includes helping set transfer pricing matters with products and services that are acceptable and accepted by various jurisdictions.

·Oversee cashflow management to minimize interest costs; including maintenance of cashflow forecasts, and management of payables (external and intercompany) and receivables.

·Oversee thePayablefunction(and this means local PTP stewards as well as the PTP function at SSC/COE)Ensure that transactional processing is timely, accurate, and efficient. Cultivate and reinforce a reputation with our customers and suppliers that we are easy to do business with and we are fair.

·Make technicaland difficult decisions on accounting or statutory levelin consultation with Corporate Finance/Local Finance with the spirit of “buck stops here”

Process Improvement

·Continually strive to improve and develop the business and financial systems, procedures, and reportingthrough elimination and standardization.

·Seek opportunities to lower the total cost of operation, not just optimizing a part of the whole.Convince the stakeholders and implement such changes.

·Seek opportunities to utilize the SSC/RDA for more non-traditional tasks, for example, pricing administration.Convince the stakeholders and implement them

·Maintain high standard of documentation, file management and consistent approach to all areas of information and data integrityso that the processes are standardized, transparent, and scalable.

Developing Employees

·Manage, develop, coach, mentor, motivate and buildefficient and effectiveControllerteams across APAC region,including the employees at Shanghai Shared Services Center and Regional Data Administration.

·Create the culture whereby local controller teams move closer to a business partner role with stewardship, while the SSC/RDA team moves closer to a Center of Excellence, making the front office out of the back office embodying high standards.

·Ensure the pipeline of controller/accounting talents are such that we have abilities and capabilities to tackle several projects on top of maintaining the daily/monthly/annual routine necessary for controllership.

Other Key Accountabilities

  • Reviews, analyzes and interprets financial information to provide pro-active advice as a partner to business leadership. Participates actively in key management and business decisions, lead, direct senior managers to ensure that the organization's financial strategies are implemented effectively.

  • Collaborates to enhance capability and impact of business finance analysts/managers. Provides relevant fiscal information to the executive management team.

  • Lead the strategic planning process to develop and implement financial strategies that align with the business objectives.

  • Direct all aspects of accounting operations, resource allocation and budget/forecast activities and ensures profits of the organization are protected through the establishment of effective financial controls.

  • Monitors and enhances effective use of working capital, credit control and collection activities, inventory balances and obsolescence.

  • Ensures major capital expenditure requests comply with budgets and approval systems and conduct post close reviews.

  • Drives in cross-functional business systems and processes to improve productivity and cost efficiency.

  • Complies with the organization's Finance and Legal policies and procedures, responds to both Internal and External Audit enquiries in a timely manner, and ensures follow-up on action items to address audit recommendations.

  • Responsible for the management of staff including selection, direction setting, feedback and coaching, coaching, performance management, rewards and recognition and development planning.

  • Overseas the development of financial accounting systems required to maintain reporting and statutory requirements.

  • Ensures statutory reporting, tax, insurance and other compliance with governmental regulations.

  • Drives change in cross-functional business systems and processes to improve productivity and cost efficiency.

  • Complies with the organization's Finance and Legal policies and procedures, responds to both Internal and External Audit enquiries in a timely manner, and ensures to follow-up on action items to address audit recommendations.

  • Ensures that the accounting records of the organization are properly maintained in accordance with both corporate and statutory requirements.

  • Works within and actively promotes Medtronic's Mission, corporate strategies, policies, procedures and Code of Conduct.

Experience and Knowledge:

·In depth knowledge of US GAAP

·Wide knowledge of local tax requirements and environment in Asia Pacific

·In depth knowledge of COSO and other controlframeworks to comply with SOX

·Sound working knowledge of Code of Conduct and Business Conduct Standards

·Computer literacy including sound knowledge of the MS Office suite of software especially spreadsheets (e.g. Excel)as well as SAP and, ideally, other Medtronic systems

·Knowledge of Lean Sigma, and Project Management methodology

JOB EXPERIENCE:

  • Preferably 15+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large corporation.

  • Proven experience on establishing guidelines for budget and forecast preparation and prepare the annualbudget in consultation with the Executive Director.

  • Demonstrated monitoring risk management policies and procedures to ensure that program and organizational risks are minimized.

  • Successful experience in project management, shared service preferred

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor degree in Business Administration or Finance

  • Formal Professional accounting qualifications: CPA/CA

  • Other postgraduate qualifications, e.g. MBA highly regarded
