Microsoft Corporation Senior Finance Manager in Other, Singapore

Microsoft Operations Finance is looking for an experienced Statutory and Revenue Controller with proven technical accounting and financial reporting background to support and drive a new Statutory Audit and Reporting Centre of Excellence in the region. The role will collaborate across functions on a core set of process areas, including providing revenue recognition expertise, month-end / quarter-end / year-end closing and reporting, audits, and annual financial statements. A key focus will be to reduce risk and increase compliance for statutory processes, drive greater control, and reduce complexity and reporting/audit time and be responsible for all revenue-related matters within Asia Pacific Operating Center (APOC). This will involve optimizing BPO capabilities and resources in the Regional Operating Centre and will require building strong relationships and communication channels across the global organization and with vendors. As part of a global controller community, this individual will help land the deployment and stabilization of a new Controller Operating Model, along with new tax, intercompany, and transfer pricing structures. The role will evolve with business growth initiatives.

Responsibilities

  1. Statutory Revenue Close Process

Ensure that revenue is reported at a legal entity level in accordance with US and local GAAP in an accurate and timely manner:

  • Ensure automated and manual processes are in place for revenue related entries to land at an entity level

  • Be the primary point of contact for all legal entity revenue processes

  • Manage and report out on revenue analysis on a monthly and quarterly basis to support quarterly sign off

  • Support all internal or external audit queries on revenue recognition

  • Support and ensure revenue controls compliance in accordance with US and local GAAP & SOX

  • Manage any local GAAP revenue processes to ensure local GAAP compliance

Collaborate with the global team to ensure consistency and drive process improvements

  1. Contract Reviews and Technical Consultations

Ensure that revenue is reported in line with US GAAP requirements:

  • Review software and other contractual arrangements in accordance with US GAAP to identify language that may require non-standard accounting treatment.

  • Be the local subject matter expert providing technical advice to business partners on revenue recognition in order to influence deal structures to maximize revenue for the company.

  • Partner with Corporate Accounting, subsidiary business controllers, licensing community, Operations groups (Order Processing, Asia Credit Services, Program Management to understand and resolve issues identified in the contractual arrangement reviews.

  1. Projects & Change Management and Process Excellence
  • Design, build and execute new project(s) & initiative(s) of global scale

  • Drive Project management and presentation to stakeholders in a virtual environment

  • Drive continuous process simplification and automation

  1. Month-end/Quarter-end/Year-end
  • Provide oversight of month-end/quarter-end close for APOC/Singapore, in close collaboration with Corporate Accounting and outsourced service providers

  • Drive insightful monthly/quarterly financial reviews to highlight potential issues and required remediation

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor degree in Accounting and a qualified CPA, with minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a IT/software MNC or Public Accounting Firm

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, ability to interpret & apply judgement for accounting under IFRS and US GAAP, particularly around ACS 606 and IFRS 15

  • Knowledge and understanding of SAP systems will be advantageous

  • Demonstrated experience in working with senior management teams

  • Demonstrated ability to deal with ambiguous situations and dynamic/changing business requirements

  • Strong self-leadership and initiative

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate effectively across different levels in organization

  • Strong planning & organizational skills, with ability to work under tight deadlines independently

  • Self-confidence and flexibility to work within a team setting, and across global and functional teams

  • Interest to continuously challenge and improve existing way of doing things

  • Be able to scale from detail to high level strategy

  • Direct experience in working with external shared service centres is strongly preferred

  • Growth mind-set and open to changes

  • Program & project management experience will be advantageous
