Job Purpose:

  • Support underlying businesses, technology, operations, legal and risk in developing the AML Monitoring programme within Citi Compliance for APAC (All LoBs) and EMEA (GCB).

Job Background/Cntext:

  • The role reports to the APAC Head of AML, as well as a matrix reporting line to the Global Head of Monitoring. This function is primary for developing typologies that drive AML Monitoring solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

This role is to document legal, regulatory and best practices developments for AML Monitoring into requisite AML Typologies that drive development and implementation of an effective AML Monitoring regime. The successful candidate will have a highly developed understanding of AML Risks, banking products, AML Risk Assessments and monitoring technology and an ability to identify and to resolve issues so that Citi is able to demonstrate that it complies with applicable legal/regulatory requirements. In particular, the role will require, amongst other things:

  • Establishing relationships with client personnel at appropriate levels both at a regional and global level, as applicable.

  • Monitor progress, manage risk and ensure key stakeholders are kept informed about progress and expected outcomes.

  • Stay abreast of current business and industry trends relevant to the client's business.

  • Demonstrate deep technical capabilities and professional knowledge.

  • Demonstrate ability to quickly assimilate to new knowledge.

  • Possess in depth business acumen. Remain current on new developments in advisory services capabilities and industry knowledge.

  • Managing a team and providing guidance on AML transaction monitoring system implementation.

  • Leading on any AML remediation work as well as mitigation of process and controls risk.

  • Current state IT assessments - continuous improvement.

  • Assess money laundering/terrorist financing risk in various client segments, recommend mitigants and controls.

  • Prepare and present reports on projects and initiatives including assisting with the reporting on applicable Consent Order work.

  • Drafting Business requirements for Compliance initiatives.

  • Depth of knowledge of AML and regulatory requirements.

  • Understanding of banking and bank products.

  • Understanding of AML risks to the bank sufficient to develop typologies to design systems/procedures to mitigate that risk.

  • In depth knowledge of AML Requirements horizon (legal, regulatory, best practices)

  • Experience in assessing money laundering/terrorist financing risks in various client segments and recommending mitigants. and controls for existing and new products.

  • Familiarity with current project management disciplines.


  • The successful candidate will have:

  • Strong project management skills with ability to work independently on multiple assignments and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment.

  • Leadership skills within consensus framework (ability to lead others to a good decision).

  • Ability to present information in a concise and effective manner to senior management.

  • Ability to write AML Typologies based on legal, regulatory, best practice developments or policy changes.

  • Highly Proficient MS Office tools.


  • University Degree.

  • CAMS, ICA or equivalent certification.

  • Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in Compliance, Risk Management or Audit.

  • Expert knowledge of AML Monitoring legal, regulatory and best practice requirements.

  • Knowledge of banking systems and products.

  • Experience with drafting technology requirements.

  • Ability to present information in a concise and effective manner to senior management.

  • Proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Exceptional candidates who do not meet these criteria may be considered for the role provided they have the necessary skills and experience.


  • Technical expertise and therefore client credibility in the field of AML monitoring and/or technology, evidenced by a track record of leading the delivery of major risk/regulatory transformation programmes either as a consultant or whilst working for a major financial services organization.
