Applied Materials Manager V, HR Business Partner - (M5) in Singapore, Singapore

Job Scope:

Provide HR Leadership and support to 3 Business Units across Singapore, Malaysia and Philippines. Coach and develop managers and key talent to be future leaders of Applied. Drive the HR agenda in close partnership with the Business Leaders, the rest of the HRBP peer groups and the HR COEs. Identify, plan and implement talent attraction, management, and development and retention strategies for the employees in the team he/she supports. Lead Manpower plans for the BUs and execute on time, cost and employee engagement metrics. Recognized as an expert within the company. Anticipates internal and or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues; recommends process, product or service improvements. Solves unique and complex problems that have a broad impact on the business. Contributes to the development of functional strategy. Leads project teams to achieve milestones and objectives. Lead a team of two – an HRBP and an HR Specialist – develop and coach them to ensure their growth and development is on the appropriate track.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Proactively shape HR BU/Function strategies and priorities to align to BU strategy and changing needs to help shape the appropriate culture. Diagnose and provide appropriate interventions to optimize business performance to execute against strategy goals generally at the BU/Function leadership level. Balance enterprise-wide and business unit specific needs with local requirements.

  2. Conduct organizational & talent assessments; develop talent strategy and pipeline to staff and build workforce capability. (e.g., selection, assessment, development, succession)

  3. Design and implement change management, communication and engagement strategies within the BU/Function.

  4. Actively partner, coach & develop executive leadership and management. (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions, performance management).

  5. Effectively leverage and partner with COE & HR Ops in the delivery of initiatives to deliver the HR strategy for BU/Function. Balance enterprise-wide and business unit specific needs with local requirements.

  6. Leverage tools and systems e.g.; Workforce Dashboard, Workday to perform analytics in support of business strategy

  7. As required, participate in M& A, Due diligence and integration(s) from the HR perspective. Partner with M& A, Due diligence core team and regional HR on projects, programs, processes and initiatives to integrate the acquisition with the BU/Function.

  8. Participate in at least one HR initiatives annually at segment, enterprise and/or region levels.

Functional Knowledge

  • In-depth understanding of the HRBP model in complex, multi-location organizations

  • Regarded as a subject matter expert in HR, specifically on the HRBP aspects of the role

  • Demonstrates in-depth and/or breadth of expertise in own discipline and broad knowledge of other disciplines within the function

  • Significant analytical skills – is able to translate business objectives into an HR agenda, derive insights from data in HR warehouses and make appropriate decisions and recommendations

Business Expertise

  • Experience working with complex, high-touch MNC organizations. Experience working in Singapore, supporting teams based in Singapore and preferably other countries in SEA.

  • Expertise in managing teams remote, working successfully in matrix organization structures

  • High tolerance for ambiguity – is able to make decisions with less than perfect data

  • Comfortable in working with engineering, manufacturing and R&D leaders, and also at the same time with the entry level staff/workmen.


  • Leads projects with notable risk and complexity; develops the strategy for project execution

  • Bachelor's Degree at a minimum, Master’s preferred

  • 10+ Years of Experience
